Lesson Plan
Objective- The students will be able to evaluate websites and additional resources using a variety of tools. The students will prepare research and notes for a partner debate.
Materials- One computer per student with internet access, printer and books (enough for pairs of students) including, Moon Landing: Apollo 11 40th Anniversary by Richard Platt andThe Moon Landing Hoax: The Eagle That Never Landed by Dr. Steven Thomas

Lesson 1
1. Have students access the Critical Literacy and the Moon Landing website
2. Review the resources linked discussing evaluation of websites listed in part one of the lesson
3. Have students print the WebPage Evaluation Tool
4. Students should evalute the websites linked on the bottom of lesson one using the tool
5. The students will be graded on the completion and accuracy of the WebPage Evaluation Tool
Lesson 2
1. Review the information on evaluating websites especially the information from Harris and Schrock
2. The students should print out a Moon Landing Note Sheet and WebPage Evaluation Tool
3. Independently, students should take notes while reviewing the websites and using the tool to evaluate reliablity
4. The students will be graded on the completion and accuracy of the note sheet and website evaluation tool
Lesson 3
1. Review the information on evaluating websites especially the information from Harris and Schrock. Ask students if they have made any new decisions about the moon landing
2. Have students print the Note Sheet for Library Books
3. The students should review the resources while taking notes on the moon landing and comparing the libarary resources to the webpage resources
4. Students will be graded on completion and accuracy of Note Sheet for Library Books
Lesson 4
1. Students should find a parter to work with. Review the steps to prepare for the debate: 1) One section will describe facts and opinions that support the idea that the
United States did not land on the moon; 2) Another section will describe facts and opinions that support the idea that the United States did and on the moon; 3) A third section will describe the side that you and your partner chose to support; and 4) Finally, you and your partner will include a section that describes what
you learned about the reliability of websites and print text
2. Students should then print out a debate note sheet and work together to merge their research and prepare for a debate
3. The teacher should then set up a debate panel for each side of the issue
4. The students will be graded using the debate and research rubric
